«Alonso arremete con contundencia contra los medios de comunicación y la Federación Internacional del Automóvil»

Fernando Alonso Criticizes FIA and Press at Azerbaijan GP Practice

Fernando Alonso, the two-time world champion, expressed his frustration towards the FIA and media after the second practice session for the 2024 Azerbaijan Grand Prix in Formula 1. During a post-FP2 interview, the driver made a strong statement regarding the obligations imposed on drivers by the governing body and the media: «It’s only Friday, and I’m here because the FIA and FOM require it, but there’s nothing to share until we analyze the data. Sorry about that.»

Alonso mentioned that they would review the data with engineers to determine the best course of action. When asked about the changes to Aston Martin’s floor for Baku, he simply replied, «It’s confidential.» This latest incident marks a series of weekends where Fernando has not been pleased with Friday interviews.

In related news, Aston Martin confirmed the addition of Adrian Newey as Alonso’s new teammate after months of speculation. Newey, the former design chief of Red Bull Racing, is set to join Aston Martin as a shareholder and eventually as a technical head of the team. His work is expected to impact Alonso’s car for the 2026 season.

Aston Martin is positioning itself strategically for the forthcoming Formula 1 regulations overhaul, aiming to provide Alonso with the opportunity to contend for another world championship.
