Fernando Alonso Confirms Future Plans in Formula 1
Veteran Formula 1 driver Fernando Alonso has addressed his fans’ curiosity regarding his future in the sport. In an interview with Nextgen-Auto, the two-time world champion discussed his remaining time in the category and hinted at what lies ahead.
«I’d like to say that Adrian Newey will influence the 2025 car, but honestly, I don’t think so. I don’t believe it’s worth investing too much in the 2025 campaign unless you’re fighting for the championship. So, I think the ’26 project should be the first car in which I have an influence,» Alonso shared.
Acknowledging the time it takes to build a competitive team, Alonso expressed awareness of his own limited timeframe. Looking ahead, he mentioned potential future involvements in Formula 1 or other series, with a possible connection to the Aston Martin team.
In related news, Aston Martin has officially announced Alonso’s new teammate after months of speculation. The team orchestrated a press conference to introduce Adrian Newey, formerly of Red Bull Racing, as their latest acquisition. Newey will initially join Aston Martin as a shareholder before transitioning into a technical leadership role within the team.
With Newey’s expertise expected to impact the development of Alonso’s car for the 2026 season, Aston Martin is gearing up for the regulatory changes in Formula 1. The team hopes this partnership will provide Alonso with a final opportunity to contend for another world championship.
This significant development signals a potentially transformative period for both Alonso and Aston Martin as they aim for success in the fast-paced world of Formula 1.
