**Mazda Innovates with New Electrified Models**
Mazda is undergoing a complete overhaul of its model lineup. In the upcoming weeks, the new Mazda 6 will make its debut as an electrified sedan, featuring options for fully electric models. The Japanese automaker is also working on an electrified successor to the beloved MX-5, and there are rumors of a possible return of the RX-8. Additionally, Mazda is in the development stages of the new CX-5, one of its best-selling models.
The mid-size SUV has become one of the most sought-after vehicles from Mazda, accounting for 30% of the company’s global sales. Despite its recent update, the CX-5 is starting to show its age. Mazda is now focused on developing the next generation, which will incorporate more electrification than ever before.
According to Japanese publication BestCarWeb, Mazda is already working on the third generation of the CX-5, expected to be officially unveiled in 2025, with a potential debut at the Tokyo Motor Show later that year. The new model is likely to hit the market in Spain by mid-2026.
Mazda’s President, Katsuhiro Mogo, confirmed that the new CX-5 will be equipped with a hybrid engine, although specific details are still pending as the official reveal is months away. The model may offer similar engine options to the current CX-60 and CX-80, including traditional petrol or diesel variants, as well as mild-hybrid systems. There may also be a plug-in hybrid version with extended electric range, along with a non-plug-in hybrid for a more affordable option.
With this diverse range of powertrains, Mazda aims to compete with the Toyota RAV4 in both self-charging hybrid and plug-in hybrid categories. While details on the design remain scarce, the new hybrid SUV is expected to adopt the distinctive styling cues seen in the CX-60 and CX-80 models, featuring split headlights, a large grille, and a rugged yet muscular appearance. The interior is also set for upgrades, with larger screens, improved finishes, and high-quality materials.
Mazda appears to be gearing up for a strong push in the highly competitive SUV market with its upcoming electrified offerings.
